You Are Your Own Animator

came up with this when i was feeling dysphoric during a gym class

Thank you to my critters:

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Recovered instances of SCP-XXXX are to be contained in a standard object storage locker.

Any captured SCP-XXXX-A instances are to be amnesticized and released under temporary Foundation surveillance.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a blue pamphlet titled "You Are Your Own Animator", with no listed author.

Those who read SCP-XXXX, hereby classified SCP-XXXX-A, acquire reality-bending powers allowing them to change their own body. All memories, texts, and other media containing information or imagery of the past body of a given SCP-XXXX-A instance then change accordingly. The instance's own memories, however, are retained, along with the memories of any witnesses to the change.

When amnestics are deployed to erase knowledge of SCP-XXXX's contents, SCP-XXXX-A's reality-bending powers disappear. In this circumstance, the former instance retains their altered body, but all memories of their former body are overwritten.

A non-anomalous transcription of the contents of SCP-XXXX can be seen below:

Before you continue to the next page, Simply take a moment and breathe. In, out. In, out. In, out. Better? Good.

Imagine if you will: a stage. And on that stage is your body. It's walking around, dancing, perhaps even singing. Take a moment, close your eyes, and study it. Observe how your body moves. Consider the rise and fall of weight in motion, and your body's posture while at rest. What does it look like when your body breathes deeply? In, out. In, out. Yes. Good.

Once you are done, completely forget what you've just seen. You won't need to look back on those memories anymore.

Take another breath. It's important to stay calm. If you need to, take a longer break.

Return to the stage. This space is your canvas; paint yourself onto it. What you wish to look like. Not the perfect body, but not your old one either. Nobody is without flaws, so don't run from them — embrace them.

When you are done, make your new body sing. Imagine your voice, and how you hear yourself, but consider how others should hear you. Listen to the song, and adjust it to your liking.

Now, dance. Twirl, and soar, and make adjustments as you go. You are your own animator. You control the stage. You can change yourself and your movements to your liking. But remember not to get carried away. You do not need to be perfect.

Once you are satisfied, become one with your new body, and leave your old shell behind. Others will not remember it — it will be as if your old body had never existed at all. But if you ever feel the need to make any other adjustments throughout your life, just come back to the stage.

And please, if you know any others that feel the need to change their body, share this pamphlet with them. Good luck, and thank you.

Discovery

SCP-XXXX was discovered in Eleva, Wisconsin after a female SCP-XXXX-A instance, Riley Brooks, was reported to have been 'shapeshifting' during a homecoming dance. After being taken into Foundation custody, SCP-XXXX was recovered from Brooks' locker.

After initial testing of SCP-XXXX's properties, Dr. Noah Addams conducted an interview with Riley Brooks. Following the interview, Riley Brooks was amnestized and released without incident.

Dr. Noah Addams: Alright, Ms. Brooks… We just have some questions for you and you'll be free to go.

Riley Brooks: Can I ask some questions first?

Dr. Addams: Well, I'm not at liberty to answer every—

Brooks: What the fuck is going on? Seriously. Y'all some kinda secret organization? Like the Men In Black dudes?

Dr. Addams: I suppose you could say that. We're the SCP Foundation, and we secure and contain anomalies— things that violate natural law, the paranormal— in order to protect civilization.

Brooks: That sounded scripted. Totally scripted. You've done this a lot, haven't you?

Dr. Addams: Well, there are a lot o—

Brooks: Wait. Don't answer that, I don't need to know. I'm not going to remember this anyways, right? You're probably gonna take out your flashy thing and make me forget everything. What's this about anyways? The shapeshifting?

Dr. Addams: Exactly that.

Dr. Addams removes a photograph of SCP-XXXX from his lab coat pocket.

Dr. Addams: We need to know about this pamphlet.

Brooks: I don't really know much about it. Just randomly showed up in my locker one day. I had been… not exactly in a great place.

Dr. Addams: You can tell us anything, Ms. Brooks.

Brooks hesitates for a moment.

Brooks: Not gonna remember this… Well… I used to be a boy. And I was feeling a lot of dysphoria that day when I found the book. 'You Are Your Own Animator.' It looked short, and I was bored, so during my free period I read it and followed along with the instructions. And I opened my eyes and now I'm a girl. Er, I always have been, I guess. It was like I was living in a nightmare, and I just woke up.

Dr. Addams: So the book changed your history?

Brooks: Kinda. My name is the same, but 'Riley' is pretty gender-neutral, so that wasn't a problem. I had to buy new clothes since I only had boy ones— my parents said something about moving out of my 'tomboy' phase, and…

Brooks looks down at her attire, smiling.

Brooks: Well, I wasn't going to go to homecoming, but my mom bought me this new dress, and… sorry, I'm getting off track.

Dr. Addams: No worries. In fact, tell me more about your homecoming night. Specifically about—

Brooks: The shapeshifting, yeah. I guess I just got happy? It started off with just little things like…

Despite video evidence demonstrating that Brooks' hair was always blonde, Dr. Addams asserts that at this point, the subject's hair changed color.

Brooks: But then during the slow dance song I got a bit too into it and just… everyone was suddenly looking. I rushed the process of the stage and animating myself and everyone saw… I don't even know what they saw. I got it under control, but I guess it was too late. You guys found me.

Dr. Addams: I believe that's all we need to hear.

Brooks: And I get to go home?

Dr. Addams smiles.

Dr. Addams: Of course, Ms. Brooks. Thank you for your cooperation.

Following this interview, other SCP-XXXX-A instances were discovered amongst the student body of surrounding high schools. An investigation into the distributor of SCP-XXXX is ongoing.
