Item #: SCP-3786

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: A local clinic (Site-234-M) has been constructed, through Foundation front companies, specifically for SCP-3786 victims and enclosed in a tight-meshed bird net. The perimeter is to be regularly sprayed with pesticides. Any animal found within the clinic is to be exterminated on sight, and its remains recovered and incinerated by MTF Upsilon-6 ("Red Cross").

MTF Upsilon-61 has partnered with local churches to identify and suppress outbreaks of SCP-3786 near its point of discovery. Due to the nature of SCP-3786, the use of amnestics on patients and their immediate circle is actively discouraged.

SCP-3786 victims are to be subdued using Class 3 restraints and transferred to Site-234-M for treatment.

Any members of MTF Upsilon-6 experiencing a crisis of faith are to immediately alert their superiors and take a leave of absence from their duties.

Description: SCP-3786 is a lentivirus genetically similar to HIV that causes infected cells to become distorted into a pig-like shape. SCP-3786 symptoms include

  • Acute aquaphobia and acrophobia.
  • Visual hallucinations, usually of indistinct red humanoid or porcine creatures. Victims often identify them as 'demons' or 'devils'.
  • Auditory hallucinations of distorted, deep voices.
  • Seizures accompanied by temporary anomalous increases in strength.
  • Self-harming tendencies.
  • An inability to die despite normally catastrophic organ failure or injuries.

Conventional HIV antiviral treatments are ineffective on SCP-3786, and often result in SCP-3786 infection in those administering treatment.

Successful treatment of SCP-3786 requires at least two people of an Abrahamic faith fasting before physically touching the victim and praying sincerely. The victim will thrash briefly, before falling asleep. Analysis shows their bodies to be completely purged of SCP-3786. Any animals in the immediate vicinity will become infected with SCP-3786, and attempt to escape the area.

SCP-3786 cannot be transferred physically between humans. MTF Upsilon-6 agents theorize it spreads via a poorly-understood faith-based mechanism; SCP-3786 is known to manifest within non-religious people who visit or interact with current victims, even when not physically present. Conversely, faith that an infected person will recover appears to 'inoculate' against SCP-3786.

SCP-3786 was discovered following microscopic analysis of the pathogen following a string of infections in [city]. Standard information concealment protocols were used, and initial containment of patients began. Following reports of the first complete curings of SCP-3786, an undercover Foundation agent in the local church investigated further.

SCP-3786's mechanic appeared to work against it once a critical number of people of faith were aware of the phenomenon. The Sunday following the first successful curing, the local pastor mentioned the success of the prayer before the sermon, and preached from Matthew 17. This had the effect of most of the congregation being 'inoculated', and several members bringing infected members to the church in order to receiver prayer.

Following these events, researchers noted that allowing the cured victims to remember their experience drastically reduced infection rates, and the current containment procedures were drafted and implemented.
