Storm Watch

this isnt a dagon story per se but one time we were driving through new mexico on the way to nevada, heading west by northwest out of Texas. the time of year had the sun setting particularly early, dark by 6pm. it mustve been 7 or 8 or so when we were going down the interstate, completely flat, featureless desert in every direction. no noises either, we were the only car for miles. if you squinted you could see brakelights in the distance but that was it, nothing behind.

i was looking out the window and I saw this like… dark blob out in the desert in the moonlight, angled in such a way that i could see it for several seconds as we sped by. if you've ever seen those videos of the worlds darkest paint and it seems to literally absorb light, that was roughly what i saw. from everything around it, it was obviously a three dimensions object, but since it reflected no light, you couldn't tell. an inky black void, just sitting there.

i was like what the sam fuck but it was gone. my sisters were asleep so i couldn't tell them so i was just like ok whatever im probably just tired and settled back down. a couple miles later i saw it again but it was farther out so i could see it longer. it let me see that it was, rather obviously now, moving at a constant speed, not the intermittent gait of something on legs, the smooth pace of a wheeled object. it was moving parallel to the interstate at a much lower speed and we shot by pretty quickly.

a few minutes later i saw it yet again, except this time it was moving horizontally away from the interstate, towards the completely empty horizon. at least i assume it was moving away; again, the lack of light reflection means the only way to estimate the distance was by the relative size of this murky black shape.
everyone was asleep except for me and my dad, who was driving, and for whatever reason my child mind decides not to tell him the weird black hole in the desert. I don't remember falling asleep but then I woke up and we were getting a hotel in nm
I have no idea what I saw, assuming I was ever even awake and it wasn't some particularly realistic semilucid dream.
