NARRATIVE STUFF, THE OPENING SCRAWL

Do you know how Montauk was founded?

Let's start with a story - Let's start at the beginning.

It is written that long ago, long enough for the scars to heal but not long enough for them to fade, there was a War in Heaven. There

Let me start from the beginning - You know the stories, of course - the emperor called down seven stars as part of the Empire's creation. Each star was a great celestial beast, a fragment of the Adversary. And every place a star fell, a great battle was fought to kill these beasts. In the aftermath of these battles, cities were founded atop the battlefield.

So it was that Montauk was founded.

She pauses, persing her lips, unsure of whether to continue.

That story is… half true. A celestial really was called down here - but they didn't kill it.

They sealed it. That's the real reason each of these cities exist - they aren't cities in the aftermath of these battles. They're /jail cells./ Montauk exists because the empire even now has needed to keep these things caged.

But they're not beasts. The adversary - that doesn't exist. That's a fabrication to keep everyone in check because the truth is, we are prisoners too. There's entire worlds out there. Our little empire, it hardly even scratches the surface.

Wix, you, your…the homeland. Have you ever tried to visit it?

That's the cage.

The beast in legend was slain by a Montauk. The founder of the lineage. The lord of this place, our leader, was able to find all this out by communing with the beast. It told him its secrets. We're trying to find a way out and free us, and he's guiding us all.

DC 10 insight - she fully belives what she is saying DC 20 - there are still things she is unsure of.

Cult town things to find:

The cultists are burying the dead - ALL of the dead.
The cultists are avoiding the graveyard.
The cultists aren't, happy about the sacrifices but see it as necessary.
The lower level cultists have a dreamy look to them. They aren't fully 'there.'

The party is let in and given a chance to explore, look around, collect their medicine, "sample" the cult's hospitality. Encourage them to make their way to Strings home - whenever they do enter, when they try to exit, the cultists have surrounded the place. They are given a choice - join or be captured (BATTLE).

They can find underground passages that will lead them to graveyard. The cultists will not chase them into the tunnels for some reason. (THE MASKED ONE IS IN THERE).

[Medicine guy's home is a sort of mini dungeon. Need to piece something together, little forensics episode that lead into finding out about the place underneath it.
