An SCP-XXXX-1 instance, recovered via magnetics from a swarm surrounding SAPPHIRE ETOILE RUBY monsieur Tout-le-monde.
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Containment of SCP-XXXX is in progress. Mobile Task Forces Alpha-10 ("Extraordinary Evidence") and Omega-5 ("The Jewelers") are tasked with containing the known instances and transporting them to the nearest Site.
Everwood looked up from the terminal they were sat at and sighed. They turned their chair around to look at Agent Dang.
"What's the closest Site to here, anyway?"
"The closest that can take him? Probably CN-75, but that's a ways off. We're gonna have to keep him here for now."
"Let me see what I can come up with for Con Procs then."
Special Containment Procedures: Due to the logistical difficulty of safely transporting SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1 amidst the ongoing Yunnan Incident, temporary containment measures have been implemented. These include:
- Keeping SCP-XXXX sedated and restrained;
- Keeping SCP-XXXX-1 instances within a magnetized container.
Lau took off xer body armor— decorated with Mekhanite paraphenlia, as was appropriate for a Maxwellist like xer— and shook xer head.
"No, no. Magnets are like, the biggest no-no when it comes to Mekhanites. The fact that you used one against monsieur Tout-le-monde here has pissed off the villagers."
"But—" Dang started.
"Listen, just because I'm a little heretical and us Maxwellists use magnets to get high it doesn't mean the Church as a whole accepts it. So you gotta go apologize to them," Lau scolded him.
"Maxwellists use magnets to get high?" Rex repeated, in the form of a question.
"I can go apologize to them right now, if you want, Lau," Dang grumbled, getting up.
"Not yet. Let's finish the paperwork first."
"Fine. But I will do it eventually."
"Speaking of paperwork," Everwood interrupted, "can I see the Description now? Its still locked behind Omega-5 Clearance."
"Oh, yes, sorry." Lau approached the terminal and extended xer index finger, which quickly disjointed itself to reveal a USB drive. Xe inserted it into the port, and a brief program opened up and closed on the screen faster than Everwood could perceive. Within seconds, the Description of the file had opened.
Description: SCP-XXXX instances are mobile, mind-affecting straight razors, in use by specific SAPPHIRE ETOILE1 RUBIES (SCP-XXXX-A) for covert assassinations and self-defense. All instances are of identical make and exhibit highly abnormal durability. The following phrase is engraved on the razors' blades:
WHEN IN DOUBT, DOUBT
Instances behave by levitating in swarms that surround SCP-XXXX-A, who can direct all actions the razors take. As the instances can exit the line of sight of SCP-XXXX-A and act without hindrance, it is suspected that the razors display varying degrees of sentience that allow them to continue tasks independently of their controllers, though this could be accounted for by psionics as well.
Connections between the mind-affecting properties of the razors, SCP-4519 phenomena, and similar SAPPHIRE anomalies are being researched.
"SAPPHIRE using anomalies?" Cooper asked, still sitting by Samara's unresponsive body. "Isn't that against their ethos?"
"You would think so," Dang shrugged. "Filbuson Syndrome is a wild thing."
"What is that?" Cooper clutched at her cane. She had heard the name before; SAPPHIRE were a reoccurring theme in her field, though not very frequently.
"Filbuson Syndrome is, in basic terms," Rex started. "A delusion that anything anomalous one witnesses can be explained with science, or is simply an illusion. Jay, can you explain it better?"
Jay didn't answer, too enveloped in the documentation.
Mind-affecting properties activate when SCP-XXXX instances are used to harm an individual.2 Subjects who directly view the event in person will, rather than recognizing the full details of what transpired, enter the belief that any scenario they consider to be "more likely" or "simpler" occurred. The scenarios do not have to align with plausible, non-anomalous alternatives. These are simply any alternatives which do not involve SCP-XXXX.3 Evidence disproving the beliefs will be vehemently denied, with common rebuttals referencing how "absurd" the prospect of the anomaly is. The beliefs fade over a period of several days.
No SCP-XXXX-A identities have been determined. The doubt stemming from attacks, the sporadic nature of said attacks, along with the common strategy for the SPIRAL agents to mask their facial features with clusters of the razors, has hindered all information gathering attempts. Captured SAPPHIRE operatives have revealed little new knowledge, suggesting that full details are only available to the organization's higher-ups.
"Jay? Hello?"
"Hmm?" Jay turned from the terminal. "You said my name?"
"Yeah. Can you explain Filbuson Syndrome to 'Junior' Researcher Cooper?"
"It's named after William Filbuson, an American air force pilot recruited into the Foundation after World War II. He and a few other members of his MTF saw a giant cat that controlled rocks or something like that, but he very much claimed that no such thing could possibly exist and denied its existence despite seeing it. This effect only seems to affect religious folks."
"Do you think maybe…" Dang started.
Lau quirked an eyebrow. "Hmm?"
"Are they perhaps weaponizing Filbuson Syndrome?"
Jay turned back around to keep reading.
At the time of writing, three SCP-XXXX-A are believed to be operational in Qinghai Province, China. Combat measures are in progress.
Addendum.XXXX.1: Notable SCP-XXXX Incidents
Overview: Foundation scouting crews were attacked by SCP-XXXX-A2, who launched their SCP-XXXX instances as projectiles. Three personnel had their jugular veins severed before SCP-XXXX-A2 retreated into tree cover. Pursuit was attempted but failed, as witnesses argued with non-witnesses over the causes of the deaths.
Believed Cause of Death(s): Spontaneous external hemorrhaging4
Overview: Huǒjù zhi Zi5 remnant adherents encountered SCP-XXXX-A1, who was trapped in a crashed van. Testimony from the sole surviving adherent claims that SCP-XXXX-A1 released an SCP-XXXX swarm that stored inside his mouth, esophagus and (hypothetically) his stomach, which quickly terminated the group members.
Believed Cause of Death(s): Traffic accident
Overview: SCP-XXXX-A26 arranged their razors into the form of an animate human body. The swarm approached a small group of Huǒjù zhi Zi members but was identified due to the failure of razors in convincingly mimicking human flesh. The thaumaturgic summoning of lava and solar radiation beams dispelled the attack, notably destroying several razors from high temperatures in the process.
Believed Cause of Death(s): N/A — No fatalities
Overview: A Foundation transportation truck was destroyed by SCP-XXXX instances arranged into separate swarms, each mimicking the shape of birds when viewed from a distance. Personnel were caught by surprise when the swarms attacked, and the truck was driven off the edge of a cliff face road.
The driver used an experimental magnetics grenade in an attempt at surviving, holding onto the grenade while being magnetically attached to one swarm, but was vertically bisected by several other swarms mid-flight.
Believed Cause of Death(s): Airborne collision between three planes
Overview: SCP-XXXX-A5 and SCP-XXXX-42 combined swarms to assault a Foundation encampment, leveling almost all structures present. The survivor of the incident7 blindfolded themselves to avoid directly witnessing any deaths and successfully terminated SCP-XXXX-A5 via pyromancy. A magnetics grenade was then triggered by Agent Blaise, attracting SCP-XXXX-A6's swarm to it. However, SCP-XXXX-A6 shot him with a pistol and subsequently bludgeoned him to death with the razors affixed to the magnet.
On deactivating the magnet they formed a makeshift platform from the razors, standing atop it and ascending out of the area. Pursuit of SCP-XXXX-A2 is ongoing.
Believed Cause of Death(s): Nuclear detonation
"Hmm." Jay tapped their chin with their finger, turning in the office chair to face the group. "You've been fighting these guys a while."
"Five months now. But they've been getting bolder." Lau sighed, looking over to Jay.
"What do you think, Doctor Everwood?" Dang shut his locker behind him, folding his arms.
"I think us with desk jobs shouldn't have come here." Rex grumbled.
"You could always leave." Cooper harrumphed.
"I'm thinking Lau and I can write the after-action report for this most recent excursion. Dang, go do what you need to do. And Rex, feel free to take the next transport out of here." Jay smiled at their assistant, turning around to the terminal once more.
"Fine…we won't leave you…" he grumbled again, throwing his hands up in the air.
Addendum.XXXX.2: Inversion of Anomalous Properties
On 19 September, 2019, Mobile Task Force Alpha-10 responded to a nearby Mekhanite village's emergency signal, which was under attack by a squad of RUIBIES. SCP-XXXX-A2 was present among them, and covered their retreat upon the arrival of MTFs Alpha-10 and Omega-5.
In the resulting firefight, Agent Dang activated the transport-native magnetic device. This resulted in all SCP-XXXX instances rapidly propelling into SCP-XXXX-A2's body and lacerating their exterior and their interior organs, as well as dragging them towards the magnet. Death presumably occurred when the force of the blades pushed the upper vertebrae into the cranial cavity, rupturing it.
To date this is the only incident where the razors have directly caused the death of their controller. In turn this initiated a (presumably unintended) inversion of the anomaly's mind-affecting properties, where a cause of death seen as highly unlikely was accepted as the true course of events.
All witnesses believed that SCP-XXXX-A2 had been "smote by the gods."

"Anything else you might think is pertinent to add, Doc?" Lau asked, taking xer hands off the keyboard.
Jay thought for a moment before motioning to be allowed to type. Lau moved aside, and they took over the terminal.
At time of writing, it is believed SAPPHIRE are weaponizing Filbuson Syndrome.
