Lost my train of thought

Item #: SCP-X

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Under the auspices of subway reform, the Foundation in collaboration with the New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority, has installed multiple insulated cameras capable of advanced audio analytics within currently operational F trains.

Under the cover story of financial difficulties and gross incompetence of elected officials, governing bodies are to stymie all other MTA reforms, with specific disregard for the F line. Foundation liaisons are to aggressively campaign against improvements that would lead to faster transit, which include but are not limited to: upgrades to signal systems, repairs to core train/rail components, and proposals to decrease service fees for commuters.

Per protocol Morta, the F train’s route and activity is to proceed as scheduled. However, discovered SCP-X instances will prompt an array of railway blockades to activate, and SCP-X-01 instances are to be quarantined by personnel with psychoacoustic nullification headsets.

Description: SCP-X designates a series of anomalous phenomena that occur within ~1.3% of Coney Island/Stillwell Avenue bound F trains. Notably, SCP-X increases in likelihood should the following trigger conditions compound;

  1. A number of fatigued passengers.
  2. A number of passengers have missed their stops.
  3. Several delays have occurred.
  4. Several destination stops are skipped.
  5. Each train car has reached near or max capacity.
  6. Environmental noise (such as buzzing, chimes, or train squeal from corrugated rails) exceeds safe decibel limits set by the World Health Organization.1
  7. Transit is between the hours of 10:00 PM and 12:45 AM

Upon SCP-X activation, psychoacoustic cognitohazards, in the form of ambient background noise typical of a subway,2 infect fatigued passengers. Near-universally, the conductor will announce that it expects "delays throughout the night". After an exposure period of 25 minutes, the passenger will enter a hypnagogic state.3 If left undeterred, the passenger (designated an SCP-X-01 instance) will lose consciousness and will instantaneously transport to an extra-dimensional area of space (designated X domain). In addition, a visually identical humanoid (designated SCP-X-02) manifests within the empty space left behind,4 making detection of SCP-X phenomena difficult.

The X domain resembles the interiors of the train car with SCP-X-02 instances instead of passengers. It is believed an SCP-X-02 instance is extricated prior and materialize into the baseline F train to make room for SCP-X-01 as it enters the X domain, as ascertained by their locations relative to their train cars remaining identical. For the purpose of clarification and plurality, SCP-X-02 are also considered objects.

The X domain is finite yet unbounded — should an SCP-X-01 instance focus on a desired object and attempt to traverse towards it, the X domain will vertically and horizontally expand, making contact between the two impossible due to degrees of separation. The severity of an SCP-X-01 instance's exhaustion, anxiety, and feelings of alienation extends the frequency and repetition of objects. Consequently, this creates more SCP-X-02 instances as seats and surfaces extend. To date, no SCP-X-01 instance has ever reached the door slide exits.

SCP-X-02 instances are capable of producing rudimentary words — due to the timbres, tones and phonetic pronunciations spoken in a highly distorted manner, the meaning of words were difficult to parse. Notably, SCP-X-02 instances continually mouth words, sometimes conversing with two or more instances. It is unclear if SCP-X-02 instances are aware of SCP-X-01 instances.5

As time passes, personalized interobjects (dream phenomena that exists as a fusion of two or more objects) manifest.

Archival records which map deeper regions within the X domain have been documented from the phone of a SCP-X-01 instance6 who had utilized their interobjects as a means of escape. The aforementioned, along with the POVs of other instances, are compiled below from confiscated recording devices.

Addendum-X: Timeline

f-train-witnessed.png

Fig. B F train captured by Witness-1's phone.

8:11 PM|Jay St - MetroTech Station: Witness-1 captures footage of the F train as it enters the station. A loud jingle is heard — this is followed by an announcer greeting passengers and reading out subway destinations. The doors open and the camera operator moves into the first compartment and sits next to SCP-X-Odessa who wears headphones, which emit the lyrics "sing me to sleep"7 due to high-volume.

8:12 PM|Bergen St Station: Witness-1's phone footage shifts periodically from the floor to face the operator who monologues on their retail job. The view shows passengers attempting to maneuver into the highly populated compartment. The view depicts SCP-X-Odessa as it rocks uneasily, and raises its knees to its chest.

8:13 PM|Carroll St Station: Witness-2 enters the third compartment. A child's cries are heard from their right earplug. The camera from their phone turns on and records a distressed mother (sat ~4.5m away and left from Witness-2) who dips their head close to the stroller several times in confusion. The child's cries increase.

8:15 PM|Smith - 9 Sts: Unknown POV situated at the ceiling and upside-down, shows a physical alteration between passengers. The scene distorts and a blurry frame depicts SCP-X-Odessa's headphones are removed by unidentifiable means. As the view becomes clear again, the entity is shown on all-fours, moving from seat to seat, and crawling under the spaces below.

SCP-X-Odessa begins to clap at its ears.

Music, similar to that from the headphones, is heard from the vantage point of the ceiling near the POV.

8:17 PM|4 Av: Unknown POV captures footage of the exteriors of the F train as it stalls for repairs by the subway station. Concurrent with the speaker system announcing delays, SCP-X-Odessa is shown through the eighth and last compartment window, staring in the direction of the engineers who are inspecting the railway. SCP-X-Odessa convulses and claps its ears.

8:29 PM|7 Avenue Station: Witness-1 raises their phone to the ceiling speaker and records an automated announcement stating, "APOLOGIES FOR DELAYS, ETA INDEFINITE."

8:38 PM|15 St - Prospect Park Station: Witness-2 records footage of an argument a couple has over the uncomfortable heat and smell of urine. An incremental ringing noise displaces their voices. Presumably, the couple became aware of this as they clap their ears and gesture widely. Audio is replaced with 256Hz of pure tones.8

Fig. C Facebook post reads, "Empty, I guess the passengers got off by the last station and walked. Hell, had they stayed, they wouldn't even make the late 12AM ride and no one wants to stay past the end of the route."

9:23 PM|Fort Hamilton Parkway Station: The view opens on the train's exterior. An engineer takes a photo of it and posts the image to facebook (Fig. C). Further down the tunnel, music echoes. The lyrics "sing me to sleep" are heard.

9:25 PM|Church Av: Witness-1 captures footage of SCP-X-Odessa with physical tremors on her wrist. A patina of rust (which was not present since last recording) covers the floors in green and brown coloration. As the camera view ascends, it reveals the entity's exposed ears, which take on the texture of the rusted floors.

The camera view zooms in on vertical lacerations on SCP-X-Odessa's wrists and then at its unnaturally bronze face. Witness-1 asks if the entity requires help. In response the entity clenches a fist and bludgeons its own cheek, which chips and cracks the skin. The sound of train wheels and screeching metal reverberates from each impact.

Due to apparent difficulties in opening and closing its mouth, SCP-X-Odessa pries its lower jaw open and proceeds to jam its fingers inward. Once a grip is established on the roof of the mouth and jaw, the entity pulls at opposite ends. The entity sobs as saliva and blood drips at the borders of the lips. The ligature and cartilage crackle and pop from the pressure.

Finally, SCP-X-Odessa's mouth is agape and emits a low vibration of 90Hz of pure tones.9

Witness-2's camera phone zooms in on nearby passengers who are visibly fatigued and distressed, as their voices are displaced with a high-pitched garble. As the footage proceeds infrequent interjections of 1000Hz of pure tones displace their voices.10

SCP-X-Odessa claps its ears.

Witness-3, who stands inside the eighth and last compartment, records SCP-X-Odessa skin expand and annex the floors, seats, walls, and ceiling. An amber-red substance drips in pulpy clumps from holes on the mouth and slits on the wrists.

9:28 PM|Ditmas Av: An unknown POV is situated from the vantage point of the doorslides of the penultimate compartment. The scene opens on a crowd of passengers who hysterically slam their fists or shoulders against the surface of the doorslides. From the easternmost view, an amber-red mass clumps on the clothing of passengers near it — a leathery band of mobile, string-like tissues stretches over exposed skin.

SCP-X-Odessa claps its ears — after that, it claws, peels, and removes stray dermis and hair.

9:30 - 10:42 PM|Express stops from 18 Avenue Station to Neptune Av: A compilation of events has been gathered by various A/V devices. While passengers, CCTV camera, signaling towers, and concurrent subway trains could not see the F train, warning klaxons were heard on train stop platforms along the F train's route.

[LOCKED timeline of X domain trains traversing backward from Coney Island.]

[Witness-1 sees it. A heart, made of railways, that pumps corrugated train cars that traverse long ventricle arteries made from tunnels.]

SCP-X-Odessa clenches their teeth, humming and groaning through her mouth, as if to speak. Eventually, the entity claps two times against fleshy nubs where their ears should be before tugging on the earplug chord. In response, SCP-X-01 taps the earplugs two times with their forefingers, which prompts the entity to nod. As SCP-X-01 removes the earplugs and places them onto the entity's fleshy nubs, they wince in pain.
