I woke up to an earthquake— not just a puny rumble— it was like an explosion went off a few meters away. When it finally stopped, I noticed a dim light shining deep in the forest. And then I saw it.

Piercing the side of a tree, an iridescent shard of… something. Just looking at it filled me with this indescribably wonderful feeling. It felt like I could fly.

I don't know how long I was staring at it. But eventually, I heard a deep growling, and turned around. A wolf was there, staring at the shard. And that's when I noticed, the tree was now grey, lifeless.
