Item #: SCP-NN
Object Class: Undetermined
Special Containment Procedures: N/A — media pertaining to SCP-NN is still under investigation. Any relevant media encountered by Foundation personnel is to be reported to Research Team NULLSPOT and delivered for subsequent analysis. At the present time, civilian discovery of the anomaly is not expected.
Description: SCP-NN is a volume of space located an unknown distance from Earth, presumed to lie beyond the orbital trajectories of any man-made satellite. No details on its dimensions, movement, or interior composition have been verified.
The anomaly was discovered through the investigation of select media (NN-PERIPHERAL) implicating its existence. NN-PERIPHERAL-0011 was found by Foundation archivists inspecting the records of the Astronomy Department during November of 2018; when shown the records in question, department researchers did not recall the presence of SCP-NN.
NN-PERIPHERAL media has since been found in classified and public information repositories.
Specific instances are as follows:
NN-PERIPHERAL-003: Where is Our Solar System?, children's astronomy book published in January 2018. SCP-NN is referenced through the text but is not detailed in any depth. Proximity to Earth is stressed.
NN-PERIPHERAL-11: Collected historical records of USSR unmanned spaceflights to a location above High Earth Orbit (≥35,786 km). 32 probes were launched in total, each dropping contact on arrival while being met with clamor over scientific discoveries. Preparations for a manned mission were underway until being hurriedly abandoned.
NN-PERIPHERAL-19: Repeated and sporadic radio transmissions, triangulated to a location above High Earth Orbit. Data is too fragmented to be decoded.
NN-PERIPHERAL-27: News reports from the New York Times in 2017 regarding the complete occlusion of the sun by an unknown mass. Witnesses experienced the rapid onset of retinal damage, matching the symptoms of direct sunlight exposure, and cities lost all natural sources of light in a span of minutes. Hospital records have confirmed matching cases of eye damage, though the only documented causes are from "viewing the sky."
NN-PERIPHERAL-32: Scientific documentation attributing a regular rise and fall in sea levels to a location above High Earth Orbit. Evidence for the existence of this seal level phenomenon is not provided.
