There is a fervent movement of revolution building in the Cuban populace of these United States; one that longs for a pilgrimage home and a free society. Agents of subterfuge within the Cuban community in these United States imply Martí is preparing for war. Our good organization is to train and prepare their men for war with the Spanish.
Description: Mr. José Julián Martí Pérez, as his Spanish name is given, is a suspected practitioner of the arcane. More specifically, Mr. Martí is suspected of being capable of utilizing the written word to influence individual's minds and weaponize words to deliver physically destructive effects. Though it is not known with certainty that Mr. Martí is indeed capable of the latter, his literary works and philosophical musings have proven capable of stirring the Cuban émigré in New York, Miami, and Tampa alike.
Such works include The Golden AgeLa edad do oro and Simple versesVersos sencillos; a youth publication and poetry collection respectively. Mr. Martí has long been an ally of the Cuban spirit of independence from Spain, and has made an effort to translate the works of literature of those who remain on the island fighting the good fight.
Many of the Cuban émigré in these United States claim that Mr. Martí carries with him the very spirit of Mr. Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, the first revolutionary of the island since Hatuey who died resisting the cruelty of the Spanish many years ago. Our Father in Heaven watches over them both now.

Nota Bene February 7th, 1892 AD: Not so fast, Frontiersman Roberts. Our good organization's Homo de Cura Department has noted a few of Mr. Martí's works as possibly aligning with a socialist point of view; a school of thought which is haunting Europe. Nota Bene February 11th, 1892 AD: The War Between the States ended thirty years ago, Scion Frederik. We must look to a brighter future for all mankind. This is what the founding fathers would have envisioned for us. We must support Mr. Martí. Frontiersman Roberts, if you would please proceed.

Nota Bene February 13th, 1892 AD: My apologies my dear Watchman Elliot. In order to make up for maligning Mr. Martí and his motives, I have assigned one of my personal Frontiersmen, a veteran from the War, to train Mr. Martí and his coalition.

Everwood: You have no idea how right you are.
Nota Bene May 26th, 1895 AD: Mr. Martí is dead, shot in the chest by a Spanish soldier. He charged out into the open wearing a bright blue coat and riding a white horse. Perhaps it was a tactical error to send a poet and scholar out into the battlefield as a commander.
Mr. Martí's remains are currently in Santiago, where they were buried by the Spanish, but will no doubt be reclaimed by the rebels once they are able to. In the meantime, I have sent condolences to his widow on behalf of the American people.

Alces: I don't get it. Did he send his guy to kill Martí? And if so, what's with the years gap?
Everwood: They really should teach better in public schools. No, Rex. He sent his own guy out to teach Martí wrong purposefully.
Alces: But he was a giftschreiber, wasn't he? Why didn't he just kill him? They're meant to know better than that.
Everwood: Martí was very likely not a giftschreiber. He was just a particularly fluent. eloquent, caring, and well-spoken man. He spoke of true equality among mankind, and he was sent on a suicide mission by Scion Frederik gassing him up on becoming a hero. The funny thing is that in killing him, the Spanish committed a grave error and created a martyr. The shot was heard around the world, and many came pouring in to support the cause, eventually even the United States government themselves. So again, not a giftschreiber, just well-spoken. Probably.
