Special Containment Procedures: Item SCP-XXXX is to be held in a soundproofed container. Ear protection must be worn within this container at all times, and line-of-sight to the item should be avoided where possible. Physical contact is prohibited. Guaranteed safe visual exposure times range from 1.3 seconds normally to <0.15 seconds during periods of stress.

SCP-XXXX weighs 125 kg and is composed entirely of human hearts. The item is animate, capable of rapid locomotion, and easily agitated. It has proven capable of fine manipulation of objects, but has demonstrated little ability to understand the function of more sophisticated tools and weapons.
The hearts comprising SCP-XXXX are fused with their neighbours through a shared epicardium, and each is interlinked with one or more others such that the entire system forms a closed loop. Specifically:
- Left pulmonary veins connect to left pulmonary arteries (which are bifurcated).
- Right pulmonary veins connect to right pulmonary arteries (which are also bifurcated).
- Vena cavae connect directly to aortic valves, with the majority of the aorta not present.
In some cases, additional non-human vessel tissue connects hearts that are not directly adjoining. This tissue is muscular and heavily scarred, and the vessels may hang loose externally. The fluid filling SCP-XXXX is not known due to its durable exterior, but is assumed to be blood.
SCP-XXXX’s hearts beat in a cascading rhythm at a shared frequency. Direct perception of this frequency (most often by hearing it, touching the entity or a nearby hard surface, or subconsciously noting the rhythm while viewing it) forcibly alters the subject's heartbeat to match. This effect is capable of both stabilising natural fibrillation and triggering cardiac arrest, and persists for as long as perception is maintained and for a short period (usually no more than 60 beats) thereafter. The effect conforms to physical law rather than biological convention, and can easily bruise or tear cardiac tissue. As SCP-XXXX’s beat frequency often rises beyond survivable levels during periods of agitation, direct engagement is not advised outside of test sequences.
Sufficient trauma applied to the item will forcefully compress its outermost hearts, causing the cardiac systems of perceiving subjects to rupture explosively under the same force. This effect is capable of projecting blood upward of 40 metres from the body in all directions, and is fatal in almost all cases.
The utility of SCP-XXXX in targeted echoic broadcast is under special investigation by Psychoacoustics.
