Gosport, England (2014-01-15). SCP-8844-077 is visible in the distance.
Item №: SCP-8844
Anomaly Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-8844 cannot be contained, but may be driven away during attacks, depending on the instance involved. See Addendum I for more information. In the event of an attack on civilians by SCP-8844, Mobile Task Force Kappa-Dagaz ("Wild Hunt") should be notified and deployed to either repel the entity or dispose of any fatalities. For this reason, all Kappa-Dagaz members should briefed on the current active SCP-8844 instances and their particular traits and aversions.
Description: SCP-8844 are hostile canine entities inhabiting the British Isles, appearing at irregular intervals to hunt and kill humans. Behaviours differ between instances, but the ultimate goal of an attack is always the death of one or more people.
110 separate instances of SCP-8844 have been identified to date, numbered sequentially in order of first observation. No more than seven distinct instances have been observed actively hunting at any one time — active instances are occasionally replaced by new ones, for unknown reasons. Inactive instances have never been observed to return following their replacement.
Conventional weapons have no effect on SCP-8844, and their bodies are largely impervious to harm. All instances are capable of spontaneously demanifesting, but will only do so if rendered incapable of harming their target(s). If repelled in this way, an instance will typically not return for around 4-6 weeks.
All observed instances of SCP-8844 have a black coat and are in some respect canine. Beyond this, the morphology and anomalous capabilities of SCP-8844 may vary drastically between individuals. All instances of SCP-8844 attack exclusively at night.
Addendum I—Active instances: Below is a list of SCP-8844 instances believed to be currently active. For records on previously active entities, see RAISA-008844/66.
SCP-8844-024
Description: Short coat. Heavy build, with a severely elongated snout and jaw. Encountered exclusively in the presence of yew trees (Taxus baccata), behind which it is capable of disappearing and re-emerging at will. Favours hunting the weak and sick, but never the elderly. Strong aversion to fire.
SCP-8844-053
Description: Long, matted coat. Extremely large, at least 2 metres high at the shoulder. Face is hairless and resembles that of a primate rather than a dog. Those who see its face are incapable of forgetting it. Oily fur leaves indelible marks on human skin.
SCP-8844-100
Description: Skinless, though its exposed musculature is black. Single eye emits a dim glow, though it does not appear to rely on sight. Emerges from stagnant water, but is incapable of crossing rivers or streams. Only instance observed to attack the occupants of motor vehicles.
SCP-8844-009
Description: Two heads, coat silvered around the noses, maws, and feet. Eyeless. Hunts in persistent low-lying mists, rural flood plains, and in urban areas during frost. Capable of speech1 but refuses to communicate with prey. Impossible to hide from, but can be outrun with good stamina.
SCP-8844-098
Description: Thin, long-haired coat. Spindly and emaciated, with a neck at least as long as the rest of its body. Encountered by victims only within the home of a family member, romantic partner, or close friend. Incapable of harming the owner of the property, even incidentally, and can be repelled by using them as protection.
SCP-8844-110
Description: Appearance unknown. Attacks only the unhoused, and never in the view of others. Victims display cauterised wounds, with clothes and possessions left completely undamaged. Attacks are always successful.
SCP-8844-002
Description: Appearance unknown. Described as "smiling" by eyewitnesses. Successful attacks are followed by strong winds for days afterward.
Addendum II—Incident AT8844-RHO: On 2026-02-28 at approximately 20:50, a sudden and localised frost occurred in Salford, Greater Manchester, England. Automated systems flagged the event as a potential signifier of SCP-8844-009, and MTF Kappa-Dagaz were deployed to the location shortly thereafter. Agent Sellars, who was already based in the area, arrived first on the scene, and was able to locate SCP-8844-009 herself, triggering an attack.
The incident involved several events considered nonstandard for SCP-8844 attacks and so has been included in this file for completeness. A transcription of the relevant bodycam footage is included below.
[Camera shows a back-street with limited lighting. Visibility low due to darkness and heavy fog. A car alarm and distant police sirens can be heard; the street is otherwise quiet.]
[Biometrics normal.]
[A dark shape, identifiable as SCP-8844-0092, can be seen moving some way away, illuminated by street lights. As Agent Sellars gets closer, it stops suddenly and turns to face her.]
-009/01: [Indistinguishable]
-009/02: [Indistinguishable][-009 begins padding toward Sellars. Biometrics detect an elevated heart rate.]
Sellars: Hah… Hi, nine.
[-009/01 begins panting. -009's pace quickens.]
Sellars: We've met before, did you know? Do you remember? I can run. Well enough.
[-009 does not respond.]
Sellars: I just want to talk. If it's people you want, we- we can do that. It doesn't have to be me.[-009/01 barks once, and the entity breaks into a sprint. Sellars begins running in the opposite direction.]
Sellars: Shit.
[Sellars continues running.]
[Sellars continues running. -009 can be heard panting close behind.]
[A loud howl can be heard ahead. Biometrics detect an elevated heart rate. Sellars' speed increases.]
Sellars: [Breathing heavily] You're fucking… kidding me.
[Sellars attempts to round a corner into a commercial side street. Visibility increases due to the street lights and signage, but remains poor. SCP-8844-009/02 snaps at her leg, scratching the calf.]
Sellars: Ah! F- fuck. Bad- fuck. Bad dog.
[SCP-8844-100 emerges through the fog, some way down the street ahead. The entity is visibly wet.]
[-100 howls softly.]
Sellars: [Breathing heavily] Fuck.
[Sellars begins slowing.]
Sellars: Two of you. That's-
-009/01: Two of-
-009/02: you.[Both entities stop their approach. -100 lowers its head.]
-009/01: You dare-
-009/02: To take…[-100 begins growling and resumes its approach. -009's hackles rise and -009/1 begins growling.]
-009/02: Mistake-
[At this point, Sellars attempts to turn around and pass -009. -009/02 lunges at Sellars, inflicting lacerations across her back, but she remains on her feet. Sellars turns and attempts to kick -009/02's mouth away. -009/02 bites down on her foot.]
Sellars: [Indistinguishable.]
[-100 barks once, breaks into a run, and jumps at -009. Sellars slips off the boot in -009's mouth and begins running.]
[The two entities collide. Sellars briefly turns back. -009/01 tears a chunk of flesh from -100's exposed musculature. -100 howls in pain.]
[Sellars turns away and continues running.]
[Sellars rounds the corner, returning the way she came. Line of sight to the entities is lost.]
[Sellars continues running.]
[Pained yelps are heard. Biometrics detect an elevated heart rate. Sellars continues running.]
[The sound of the entities fades until it can no longer be heard.]
[Sellars continues running.]
[Visibility increases slightly as a strong wind begins displacing the fog.]
[Sellars continues running.]
[The wind begins to howl.]
