lynchpin

SCP-XXXX is a recurring anomalous vocalization in Oradour-sur-Glane, France. Its vocal range is consistent with soprano, mezzo-soprano, and contralto voice types. Notably, all women residing in the town have stitched their mouths shut with synthetic piano wire.

MEMETIC SCREENING, PLEASE RECITE FROM THE BULLETPOINTS OUTLINED BELOW

  • A voice does not have to have a sound. A sound does belong to a voice.
  • All natural voices are part of a chorus. The chorus is not immediately visible, therefore, all choruses are infinite.
  • All natural sounds resonate a voice. There is sound in your mind.
  • Time finds its singers and instruments in man and faith.
  • It is ongoing.
  • Where the living may die, time cannot.
  • If time is a chorus, and sound is in your mind, what is the voice you hear?

  • You do not hear yourself speaking.
  • You do not hear yourself speaking.
  • You do not hear yourself speaking.

TSNA

Special Containment Procedures: Site-909 was built on top of Site-908 to quarantine anomalous frequencies. It utilizes sound nullifying meta-materials inscribed by HARE Librarians.

Should a containment breach happen (where frequencies caused by SCP-XXXX exceed 150dB):

  • all personnel are to abandon basement floors,
  • engineers are to seal these floors with acoustic wedge soundproofing made from foam and cement.
  • HARE Librarians are to inscribe appropriate, region-specific para-runes onto the hardened floor covering SCP-XXXX. RAISA lexicons for para-runes are to be updated should new languages and dialects appear during and after breach.

Thaumaturgical sound nullification anchors (TSNA) have been placed around the perimeter of Site-909.

I/O EDDA is to monitor Foundation media filters to flag behaviors and anatomies in existing Canis lupus migrations.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an amalgamated vocalization. Vedic, Roman, Norse, Gaulic, Baltic, Celtic, Greek, Slavic, Hittite, and various precursor languages are vocalized simultaneously from an unknown vector originating from the defunct remnants of Site-790. On 09/23/1976, an anomaly previously classified as SCP-XXXX instigated a CK-Class ("Demiurgic Source Conversion") event which led to SCP-XXXX's reclassification. Since SCP-XXXX's containment, voices belonging to expired personnel have been heard past 15km of reinforced soundproofing.

In a musical ensemble, each singer must be in lockstep with the conductor, who is himself an instrument for the sound produced. History finds its singers and instruments in man and faith. It is ongoing; where the living may die, time cannot.

QUOTES TO USE:

Timothy opened his mouth and said: "A DRAGON IS COMING, A DRAGON IS COMING, A DRAGON IS COMING."

Sofia: There once were dragons; their shrieks were tinnitus, their maws were howitzers

Unknown: Distort. My face, it would distort. I mean, we were welcoming the wolves into our homes and bodies.

AIM:

Mr. Rose (Brian Rosenberg) absolutely detests Sofia upon their first meeting, given she was a female liaison to German men and views her complacency and rekindling of an anomalous faith (no doubt brought upon by her time scanning books from the Thulians) as despicable. For what it represents. He really hates her fundamentally and the only thing stopping him from leaving in disgust is his duties to the Foundation. And a small curiosity: why did the liaisons choose to shut their mouths with sutras.

Sofia (Sofia Beaumont) is a mystic, an oracle of some sort. She actively antagonizes or pokes or prods on Mr. Rose's function for being here. She is the main expositor for her faith. All journal entries about the Voice, Mother Gervudan, who is lost outside of time, space and sound, are from her POV and from some of her former masters. She and her coven of females deject Mr. Rose and most of the men who are tasked with escorting them to containment facilities as in her mind she had done nothing wrong by "surviving." Soon she "acts" as if she falls in love with Mr. Rose, "listening" to him, coaxing him out of his hardboiled exterior, and eventually bedding him.

Dr. Carpentier (Cédric Carpentier) is a fellow researcher and a soundboard for Mr. Rose. Friend. French. Lived in the town Sofia now resides in. In his town, he was known as 'le bon david", a happy, go-lucky fellow who often knew how to talk up a crowd. Was someone who waited in a Foundation bunker, waiting for the Anomalous War to end between Pentagram and the Thulians. In their conversations with one another, he guides Rose to build more a rapporteur. Advises him to be more open. Friendly. Regrets this completely in the later log.

Sister Margarette pantomimes and writes down letters to both Rose and Carpentier, but not Sofia. Is found dead. Mangled. Flesh stripped by unknown human teeth. There are voices that radiate in her head. Sometimes they come out her ears, eyes, nose, and self-made scratches. She feels she has become a flute of some sort.

There is a story told. A fable. About how a dragon came to France and burned it down. Men, woman, and children rendered ash and bone. After the dragon leaves, the wolves come as if drawn to raw meat. But there were too little people in the town. Those left were too scrawny as the fields had been the first to burn. Mother Gervudan went to a female nun and they made a compact in blood and blue flames. Misleading interpretations of the event are told throughout generations. One interpretation is that Gervudan brought cows, hens, and wheat from neighboring towns to feed the remaining families. Others, depict Mother Gervudan devouring the lady and assuming her form, and that in every Catholic coven, wolves hid in sheep's clothing.

She took on her vocal cords, but never truly matched her voice.

So she took vows of silence. In all endings, Gervudan promised to come back again when humanity was plump enough for her people to feed on when the chorus was strong enough for her to sing an ancient song of a primal Mindscape, a song that inflicts visions of a Dark Continent in the Shadows of man. A place where all belonged. To be hunted down, fed on, become beasts themselves and repeat the unending cycle.

[DO NOT REVEAL THIS SEGMENT SOMEHOW]

Prophecy: The rivers of the Rhone & the rivers Jordan must seep into one another. To create a living demiurge, a Speaker for the Voice. She will be a daughter, representative of her mother, the coven, and Mother Gervudan.

[fast-forward to audio log POV only recording segments from Mr. Rose's wire of something grizzly happening during the Speaker's birth. A wetnurse is screaming. A sister is singing. Bones crunch. Something is urinating. Something wet collapses to the floor. More wet sounds moving in one another.]

INTERACTION BETWEEN CARPETIER & ROSE:

CARPETIER opens with some Schopenhauer to which Rose says he never knew. He did know a little about Kant. Taught in religious studies at his Synagogue. Jokingly Carpetier then pokes Rose a bit, tells him he knew Kant would have amazing dinner parties for his time, often asking guests to open up on their day, and give a reflection at the end. Rose, bites the bait. He talks on Sofia and prying information out of her. Growing increasingly frustrated.

CONSTANT THEME:

As Rose's POV turns to Sofia's POV in time (or perhaps as he goes along by the arrival of his child) nature starts pervading the environment. Gramophones, cars, and record players start to lose sway in this realm.
Nature eventually prevails.

The first transcript is written on contemporary paper, as part of a research journal.

By the end, a transcript is written on a piece of dried sheep's bladder, in Gaulic.

SCP-XXXX

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: All Gévaudan are to be kept in zoological enclosures near Site-790. Personnel are forbidden from traversing beyond the secure zone demarcated by a white line 10m away from the enclosure. Automated droids are to administer nutrition, medication, instruments, paper and writing utensils through ventilation shafts attached to the enclosures, in lieu of prioritized personnel.

D-class are to be led through doorways into a secondary dome adjacent to the enclosure for testing.

International monitoring programs are to pinpoint Gévaudan migrations. MTF Eta-46 ("Edict of Francia") is tasked with detaining Gévaudan and SCP-XXXX-α followers. Affected human populations attempting to invoke SCP-XXXX-β are to be terminated.

Operation Tiur is in effect.

Description: SCP-XXXX designates a series of phenomena surrounding Gévaudan1.

Gévaudan are physiologically non-anomalous. Whenever packs of Gévaudan relocate to new areaas, they do not seem motivated by scarcity or survival, instead, appearing in post-battlefields with little to nonexistent prey populations. Their migratory habits suggest populations frequently interbreed with Eurasian, Timber, Apennine and Iberian wolves.2 Thus, information alluding to their existence has often been inconclusive or highly suspect.

Operation Tiur: Archived pseudo-factual histories provided by PoI-XXXX (a detained SCP-XXXX-α-1, birth name "Sophia Espiscopo").

There are many of you who wonder, why is a French Wolf in Armenia? The answer is simple; one language is never enough. One country nor her people are ever enough.

Any human population occupying space ~116m away from Gévaudan are exposed to memetic phenomena. They will gradually propagate a wholly new religion over the span of several months if undeterred. Designated SCP-XXXX-α, these denominations take heavy influence from a variety of non-Abrahamic cultures and religions existing from 600 BC to 1000 AD. The majority of affected persons become submissive to commands given to them. The minority of affected persons (SCP-XXXX-α-1) will overtime experience grand mal seizures, which followers near-universally consider as omens, signifying divine right and authority. Subsequently, SCP-XXXX-α-1 are appointed as leader(s) of a given SCP-XXXX-α denomination. SCP-XXXX-α-1 will preach elaborate societal laws and practices, such as forbidding followers to form sentences and words, instead, only allowing communication via whistling, humming, moaning, and grunting vocalizations.

Despite SCP-XXXX-α followers gaining an eidetic lexicon of Lepontic, Brittonic or Gaulish words, they reserve speech for performances of a ceremonial or ritualistic nature. These precipitate hallucinogenic visions among all. 91% of SCP-XXXX-α-1 state that "words are for the dead" and "time sings to stars".

Taxonomy & Narratives

Acquisitions of Gévaudan fossils from French, German, Scottish, and Baltic dig sites suggest that the evolution of this subspecies of canis lupus happened in the Pleistocene era3, as supported by relative dating techniques. Taxonomists, tasked with distinguishing idiosyncratic ancestries and behaviors within baseline wolves, yield inconclusive methods for identifying and studying Gévaudan clusters. Anthrozoologists, tasked with defining cultural and historical interactions, yield only folkloric tales denoting their feracity and beastial nature throughout Western Europe.

Therefore, SCP-XXXX-α affected individuals are the only primary source of information regarding Gévaudan.

Operation Tiur: Transcription of PoI-XXXX's interrogation.

Efforts to map out conclusive methods for distinguishing Gévaudan have mostly surfaced from Foundation collaboration with amenable or low-level GoIs; the Late-Prussian Order of The Esoteric, the Under Society of Fíor Cliath, and the Anthropological Society of New Canaan. These orders detail parahistories and nonbaseline pagan faiths. Accounting for a large volume of text, scrolls, and leather hide4, Gévaudan are near-universally described as guardians or messangers of the Gods (similar to how empyrean entities are described in Judiasm). Some translations indicate that they only appear after a cataclysmic war.
