SCP-X while containment procedures are in effect
Special Containment Procedures: While the pieces are not placed in their classical game arrangement, SCP-X's anomalous effects will not manifest. Due to the nature of the anomaly, this can only be done by placing the pieces in positions that are impossible to achieve by the standard rule set while a game is not already in progress. This is most easily done by exchanging the positions of the white king and queen.
If, for testing purposes, SCP-X is to be re-activated, this exchange should be reversed into the traditional chess starting position. Chairs may be placed behind the white and black pieces, but this is optional.
Description: SCP-X is a chess board and pieces originating from 10th century Scandinavia that will, if the black pieces are touched whilst set up in the typical chess starting position, manifest a skeletal figure (henceforth SCP-X-A) that will attempt to initiate a game of chess, utilizing wide freedom of motion despite the lack of apparent musculature or central nervous system. The game may then continue after SCP-X-A completes a legal move and a subject makes a legal move with the next piece they touch, if possible to do so, as SCP-X-A is insistent on the touch-move rule. Play will then be completed until one side is victorious, or the game is decided by a draw.
Often, during play, SCP-X-A will offer a wager of information in exchange for physical goods — the victor of the game will gain the wager through anomalous means. The magnitude of these wagers seems somewhat correlated with SCP-X-A's subjective evaluation of the chess position with an overestimation of the effect of material1 and underestimation of positional and spatial advantage; SCP-X-A is likely to wager more precious information if it believes it is winning the game.

Subject: D-Y, an amateur chess player
Experimental Aim: Determine the extent of anomalous abilities of SCP-X
D-Y enters the containment chamber and instructed to take a seat. D-Y complies, visually inspects the chessboard and pieces, then states to the containment team that they set up the pieces incorrectly. After further prompting, D-Y explains that the white king and queen have been placed on the wrong squares.
The containment team prompt D-Y to correct the position of the king and queen, activating SCP-X's anomalous effects. SCP-X-A manifests and forcefully impacts its King's pawn two squares from its starting position.
1. e4
D-Y appears throughly confused and startled at the sudden manifestation of sound and SCP-X-A. SCP-X-A tilts its head forward slightly and begins vocalisation, though does not does appear to move its jaw.
SCP-X-A: Begin.
D-Y simply freezes in place, staring at SCP-X-A. After prompting from personnel, D-Y hesitantly responds, mirroring White.
1… e5.
SCP-X-A: Your name, boy.
D-Y: It's – uh – Joshua.
SCP-X-A: I have met many a Yehoshua who dare face me in the Open Game. I wonder how you shall compare to them.
2. Nf3
D-Y is prompted to begin questioning SCP-X-A. In mild shock, D-Y takes a moment to compose himself.
D-Y: Yours? I mean, what's your name?
2… Nc6
SCP-X-A: I have been given many different names in many tounges to define my nature. Mere fragments of Truth, but none false.
3. Bc4
D-Y: So no name then.
3… Nf6
SCP-X-A is visibly pleased to see this move on the board. It looks at D-Y for a moment, before returning its attention to the board momentarily.
SCP-X-A: If it assists your feeble mind, you may call me…
Raising its hand high, SCP-X-A forcefully impacts its piece onto the board once more.
4. Ng5! .
1
SCP-X-A: … Myritu.
