Flowers in a Desolate World
rating: 0+x

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Instances of SCP-XXXX are to remain potted, and kept in airtight containers. Personnel conducting research on SCP-XXXX instances are to wear gas masks to avoid exposure to scents from SCP-XXXX.

Description: SCP-XXXX refers to a species of flower recovered from The Gix Fields1, called Afterblooms. Each instance was recovered from the centers of craters scattered throughout the fields. Since the soil in these craters was stripped of nutrients during the Clovenchild War, the ability for these flowers to flourish in these conditions has been deemed anomalous.

Normally, Afterblooms have a light, sweet scent. However, if a petal is plucked from the flower, it will emit a scent similar to blood. Those who smell the flower in this state undergo temporary muscle failure, and their brain activity increases 300%. Subjects may remain in this state anywhere between 20 minutes to 36 hours. Upon regaining control of their body, subjects claim to have experienced visions. Vivid recollection of these visions is retained for up to four hours, at which point the memory begins to fade. When questioned about these memories, subjects tend to express regret or nostalgia for their childhood.

Addendum XXXX.1: The following is a series of visions recorded by Junior Researcher James Vander. Researcher Vander was tasked with writing down everything he remembered about the visions upon waking. To allow Researcher Vander to focus on recollection, he was asked to write down his memories however came most naturally, rather than in a necessarily clinical tone.
