Suborbital view of SCP-XXXX (Above) and Plutonian Containment Site-480 (Below).
Special Containment Procedures
SCP-XXXX is enclosed within a translucent containment dome (designated Auxiliary Containment Site-480C). Once daily, site personnel are to collect packaged SCP-XXXX-A eggs in exchange for monetary compensation equalling 150 kopeks1 per dozen eggs.
Description
SCP-XXXX is the collective designation for approximately 12,000 female Russian Orloff chickens located on a farm (SCP-XXXX-1) on Pluto 12. Aside from surviving in an environment not suitable for their species, SCP-XXXX instances display no other anomalous properties.
The farm is an enclosed system with a single airlock as a point of entry and has neither autonomous farm workers nor human staff. It remains unclear as to how it has continued to operate since it was discovered in 2015.
SCP-XXXX produces approximately 1000 non-anomalous chicken eggs per week, which are typically left next to the airlock. A sign indicates that they can be purchased using the honor system, the price indicated is 150 kopeks.
Discovery
SCP-XXXX was initially discovered by NASA on January 27th, 2015, when the New Horizons probe was carrying out distant encounter operations, specifically taking pictures of the approach of Pluto. An unusually reflective region of Pluto 1 was discovered and presumed anomalous by an embedded Foundation agent. A disinformation campaign was run that claimed it was merely a patch of water ice that was briefly reflecting light from the sun.
OTF Theta-9 ("Space Hoppers") were deployed to investigate the moon, arriving on location on September 3rd, 2016. They discovered SCP-XXXX instances living on a farm facility (SCP-XXXX-1); computer terminals indicated that the facility had been setup in 1983 by GRU Division "P". Approximately 6,000 SCP-XXXX instances were present at the time of discovery.
The original purpose of the facility was to investigate the effectiveness of remote, food producing sites for resupplying space vehicles during stellar and interstellar travel. The high cost of setting up the facility, combined with the comparatively low yield, means the facility was abandoned and presumed decommissioned in 1989.
Containment Updates
Update 2017-04-11
Orbital Satellite Ursa-7 was deployed to monitor anomalies near Pluto, including Auxiliary Containment Site-480C.
Update 2024-11-31
Plutonian Containment Site 480 was commissioned on this date. It was primarily created to handle anomalies in the Kuiper Belt and to act as a staging post for interstellar travel.
12 security guards, 10 technicians, and 3 researchers were permanently deployed to PCS-480 to monitor and investigate SCP-XXXX. In particular, the researchers were to attempt to determine how SCP-XXXX continued to survive; while the technicians were in charge of ensuring that the site remained operational.
Update 2024-12-05
Researchers discovered the number of instances present at the site had grown from the initial estimate of 6,000 to approximately 12,000. Investigation produced no indications as to how the growth occurred. The SCP-XXXX instances have divided grain rations equally amongst new instances, rather than increasing the amount of grain used.
Update 2024-12-20
After 3 of the technicians suffered from food poisoning linked to consumption of the eggs produced by SCP-XXXX, a general ban on consuming their eggs was implemented.
All eggs produced by SCP-XXXX are to be incinerated upon retrieval.
Update 2024-12-24
One of the security guards was injured after approximately 200 SCP-XXXX instances mobbed her. A security sweep of the facility revealed no dangerous items, but also approximately 340 pamphlets espousing communist views. It is believed these were brought to the facility by GRU-P during the initial construction. The pamphlets were confiscated and incinerated.
Update 2024-13-04
After multiple additional occurrences of personnel deployed to the facility being injured by SCP-XXXX, all research and maintenance were suspended, pending adjustments to containment procedures to ensure their safety.
Emergency Report
The following transmission was retrieved by Orbital Satellite Ursa-7 at 15:00 SMT on 2024-13-12, from Auxiliary Containment Site-480's digital backup server. Depicted are Security Agent Nick Reynolds, who was on duty guarding SCP-XXXX and Technician Phill Gordon, who was working the central command radio station for Plutonian Containment Site-480.
[BEGIN LOG]
Reynolds: Uh, hey Command, come in.
[Agent Reynolds radio crackles in response.]
Command: Copy, Reynolds. What is it?
Reynolds: Well, um, you're not gonna believe this but, we've got movement down here. Like– a lot of it.
Command: SCP-XXXX?
Reynolds: Pull up my vid-feed, you'll see.
[The camera pans to SCP-XXXX-1, no SCP-XXXX instances can be seen. Music can be heard in the distance.]
Command: Where did the SCP-XXXX go? It's not like they they can just leave.
Reynolds: Yeah, they're still here. Once the music started playing they all stopped what they were doing and bolted for the cabin– no clue how they all fit in–
[The music increases in volume, "The Internationale" can be heard.]
Command: Alright Reynolds, hold your position. We're sending a team down.
Reynolds: Yeah, copy that.
[Seismic activity begins shaking the camera.]
Reynolds: C-Command, might w-wanna hurry on-n that. S-something is-s happ-pening.
Command: What's going o–
[The barn opens up to reveal a line of 20 Object 279 Kotin Soviet heavy tanks. "The Internationale" once again increases in volume.]
Reynolds: [Unintelligible]
[A siren blares as the wheat silo splits open, a Soviet RDS-220 hydrogen bomb can be seen.]
Command: Reynolds, fall back to Point-Charlie… Reynolds, do you copy?
[A column of 50,000 SCP-XXXX march from the cabin in unison. Smoke billows from the RDS-220.]
Reynolds: Command, [Unintelligible]. It's a god damn chicken coup!
[END LOG]
At this time, Orbital Satellite Ursa-7's onboard Nuclear Detonation Detection System (NDDS) recorded the destruction of Plutonian Containment Site-480 and Auxiliary Containment Site-480C. No further contact with the 240 personnel has been established.
Approximately 12 hours later, Ursa-7 made visual contact with SCP-XXXX; the entire population was moving south, presumably towards Auxiliary Containment Site-480A. New containment protocols are currently being formulated.
