Item #: SCP-4XXX
Anomaly Class: Nonexistent
Containment Class: Null
Special Containment Procedures: Information on SCP-4XXX that is deemed necessary for existing must be subjected to Protcol LANGUID PARANOIA. Protocol LANGUID PARANOIA consists of the following:
- Limitation to entities incapable of properly processing information.
- Constraint to the bare minimum of details required to adequately describe SCP-4XXX.
- Use of vague definitions to avoid concrete description of SCP-4XXX.
- Description of the anomaly as a hypothetical scenario to all entities capable of processing information.
This document has been assembled through an intentionally convoluted process, determined to pose the least risk of spreading information on the anomaly. Fourteen groups of personnel, all isolated with no knowledge on the existence of each other, were provided with information on the anomaly acquired during Project Eyeswipe (previously prohibited from being viewed by all persons) but only in specific chunks (hereafter BLUE chunks). These chunks were accompanied with high levels of misinformation (hereafter RED chunks), intended to redirect the groups from the comprehension of SCP-4XXX to the comprehension of non-SCP-4XXX ideas. The groups were ordered to write SCP documentation using the information they had, noting which aspects of the documentation were derived from the BLUE and RED chunks respectively.
Once each group had written a document, a fifteenth group would cross reference the documentation and create two final documents, one entirely based on the RED chunk information and one entirely based on the BLUE chunk information. They would be provided the cover story that this was practice for preserving documentation on an anomaly that could highly obfuscate files in Foundation databases. Once the BLUE chunk document was finally completed, all personnel from all groups would be amnesticized and temporarily put into infoquarantine.
The process was oragnized, initiated, and supervised by the second O5-3, who self-terminated to prevent SCP-4XXX from breaching containment. To aid in containment, this death was attributed to an assassination performed by Chaos Insurgency operatives. Their corpse is to remain in a sealed Scranton Box at an unknown location all times.
Due to the limitations on the entities which can view this document, it is expected that no Foundation staff or other human individuals will ever at any point read this file.
Description: SCP-4XXX is an nonexistent construct which has repeatedly attempted to exist over the course of human history and at multiple events in the far past. What this construct would be if it existed is unknown, but has been assumed to be hazardous to humanity, sapient life as a whole, and the stability of reality. A non-zero chance of a UEK-Class "Undefined Existential Threat" Scenario would be present if the construct were allowed to exist.
The primary method through which SCP-4XXX could begin to exist is through the comprehension of information on it. If details on it are concrete enough that sapient entities could potentially draw conclusions on them, these entities will begin perceiving aspects of themselves as being related to the details they comprehend. This leads to a series of ontokinetic phenomena where they progressively convert into SCP-4XXX as comprehension increases, reaching a point where they are entirely replaced by SCP-4XXX.
While amnestics can reverse the process in its early stages, the ontokinetic phenomena leave permanent alterations where, even if the original information is forgotten, consideration of the alteration would lead to the same gradual manifestation of SCP-4XXX.
How initial information on SCP-4XXX entered reality is not and likely will never be known.
