SCP-6000, measured via FNMS.
Item Number: SCP-6000
Object Class: Thaumiel/Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Due to the necessity of SCP-6000's existence, SCP-6000-A is to be neutralized as soon as possible by any means necessary.
As such, Site-02 has been repurposed entirely to prevent SCP-6000-A from resulting in an irreversible MK-Class Scenario. Additionally, Site-02 is allowed to procure any amount of funding (within reasonable amount) to achieve this goal.
This file will be updated as more information becomes available.
Description: SCP-6000 is consciousness. According to all forms of analysis conducted by the SCP Foundation, homo sapiens sapiens should not have been capable of complex sociological behavior, advanced technological prowess, or intelligent thought. Foundation attempts to recreate or induce SCP-6000 have universally failed.
SCP-6000 is believed to have originated approximately 200,000 years ago. Consciousness, while having primarily manifested within homo sapiens sapiens, also exists in various other animal species to lesser extents, such as primates, dolphins, and mice. Whether or not SCP-6000 was produced by a single incident or an ongoing process is unclear.
SCP-6000-A is a phenomenon which has been affecting human consciousness since 1978. Over the course of multiple decades, various parapsychological measurements linked with consciousness have degraded over time. This tends to result in less cohesive, subdued, and often predictable behaviors in afflicted subjects. Humans entirely under the influence of SCP-6000-A are incapable of complex behavior entirely.
At the time of writing, nearly 3% of humanity has been influenced by SCP-6000-A to some extent. No method to reverse this process has been found; research in ongoing.
Addendum One — Discovery
SCP-6000 was first discovered in 1964 following various Foundation advancements into neuroscience. Among these were early Foundation-created CAT machines, which, when modified with anomalous technology, detected significant deviance from expected readings. This "interference" was eventually identified later via an aMRI as an intrinsic element to the brain, though its function was still unclear. The Foundation officially began testing and monitoring SCP-6000 in 1970.

Significant progress was made in identifying SCP-6000 following the development of the FNMS device, which allowed for precise imaging of neural activity from a distance. SCP-6000 could be fully observed as a field centered approximately on the frontal lobe. The medium of the field nor its composition could not be identified — merely detected.
With this technology, Dr. Xue Guo began long-term studies of the phenomenon, and in 1974, first hypothesized SCP-6000 was consciousness, or directly related to it. Although the topic was fiercely debated among Foundation scientists, the evidence outlined proved sufficient, and the theory was accepted in 1975. Later experiments would eventually corroborate this theory.
Under this new definition, SCP-6000 and the FNMS device would become pivotal resources for Foundation psychologists. Evaluation of SCP-6000 would allow for scientists to determine interference in consciousness, making the study of memetic and noospheric anomalies significantly easier. Additionally, it allowed for more accurate treatment of personnel who were inadvertently exposed to cognitohazardous anomalies, saving numerous lives.
In 1978, Head Researcher Xue Guo detected abnormal deviations in Junior Researcher John Graham's SCP-6000 field during routine testing. As the results were outside typical margins of error, he agreed to undergo various neurological tests to ensure his safety. After approximately one month of no external interference being discernible, Head Researcher Guo submitted a formal request to inspect Foundation staff worldwide for similar cases.
Equipped with dozens of portable FNMS devices, Guo and her team conducted readings of numerous sites around the world. Nearly six months later, the team concluded that Junior Researcher Graham's condition was shared amongst 1.5% of Foundation personnel, excluding D-Class. SCP-6000-A was thus discovered and classified as an unexplained phenomenon, and monitoring began.
Addendum Two — Test Logs
The following tests were performed by Site Director Xue Guo and her research team in an effort to determine the source of SCP-6000-A. Logs of earlier tests have been excluded from this file for brevity purposes. To see full testing logs, please contact Director Guo.
